While I have had a twitter account for some time, I was mostly a lurker. I did use it to join other KhanAcademyAmbassadors to talk about all things Khan. So now that I have a dedicated account for work, I can explore the world of education with aplomb. So I participated in the #tlap Teach Like a Pirate chat. It was fun, and I saw that some of our Cohort were there. I also saw some of the authors (of books for educators) were participating.
Minna, Erica and I also checked out Matt Miller on a Microsoft teams webinar where he talked about MysterySkype. He is so much fun to listen to. I have been listening to the Google Teacher Tribe podcast and am used to hearing his voice. I thought I was hearing a broadcast with Matt Miller at InnovatEd a few years ago. I was in shock when it was actually him! Twitter is a great way to get inspiration and start conversations with teachers and educators around the world.
Since I want to use my new account to facilitate professional growth, I looked for people I know will steer me in the right direction. I followed Mario Piombo and everyone that showed up in his feed. It is very easy to spread too thin. There is a safety factor in connecting with people from far away. I would like to deepen the connections here at home. I am thinking about how I can design my action research utilizing twitter. I am following #ProfessionalLearningCommunity and #PLCs. I reached out to see if I could get more information as to how other places train their staff on how they use their PLC time. Maybe I will set up a dedicated @NVUSDPLC account. That might be a quick and easy way to start building the community.
Twitter allows one to make connections, get support and resources while investing the amount of time that is just right for that moment. I can understand why twitter is abuzz.
